Matinee Manis™️ is dedicated to providing the most unique dip powder collections on the market. Our dips are all handcrafted, small batch curated, and chock full of pigments, glitters, love, hard work, and a few cuss words. We design each collection with the DIY nail nerd in mind and want our monthly boxes to invoke a happy dance every time you receive one. WEIRD FACTOID: I'm obsessed with pens. I have....hundreds. 🖋️😏 That said, I'm also a pen snob. Don't give me that weak promo bank pen to use. I'll use my Pilot V10 BOLD in purple, thanks. 😏 When I was a kid and would go to the store with my older sister, my mom would instruct her NOT to allow me to buy pens with my $2 spending money in my pocket. So I bought scented or stamper markers instead. 🤪

LOVE: Curating collections is a ton of fun! My mind is teaming with ideas for future collections. You might think, "Won't you run out of movies and TV shows to inspire you?" My answer would be, "Considering my existing list has over 50 entries at this very moment, and new movies are released every year, it's unlikely!" 😂
HATE: Narrowing down my collection colors! Some movies I could have 12 colors for! Also making sure I don't duplicate a color across multiple collections. 🫠
HOBBIES: Napping. 😴 It's my absolute FAV!
WEIRD FACTOID: Despite loving bright colors, I use to shy away from wearing them out of self-consciousness. Now I wear as bold and bright as I possibly can because it makes ME happy! 🥰

YES PLEASE. ♨️ I always ask for extra ice in my drink and will then blow bubbles in it with my straw to woox everything around so it gets extra cold. 🥤🧊 It may look like I'm playing with my food... but I promise it works! Try it, and tell me it don't. 😂

WEIRD FACTOID: For whatever reason, I'm really good at positioning and stacking things in a closet, refrigerator, or what have you, so that EVERYTHING fits. So much so that's it's become a running joke back home. After a big meal such as Thanksgiving, my mom will say, "I just don't know how we're going to fit all this in the fridge." "Don't worry mommy, I'll handle it with room to spare." "How do you DO THAT?!" "It's a gift." 😉

The Journey So Far...
TLDR: I've been doing my own gel/dip nails for over a decade. I love dip powder and nerding out to movies/TV, and I want to share my creativity with you! When enough of you love it, too, I can quit my job and do what I love full-time! Ok. Carry on...
MY ORIGIN STORY | THE CATALYST
After spending months planning for my parents 50th wedding anniversary in 2013, the day to celebrate was finally upon us. Now naturally, I had to get my nails done for the special occasion! Believe it or not, I was doing so for the first time since high school, when I'd sworn off the luxury after a seriously bad experience. But this was my beloved mom and dad's special day.... and being the perfectionist I am and the need to match every detail, I decided to splurge with a classic French manicure.
THE PREQUeL | MY DISCOVERY OF GEL
Fast forward to the morning after my afternoon appointment, and my basic lacquer was chipping because I was NOT about the get my natural nails ground down for acrylics like last time.... I was upset to say the least.
So, I called the salon and managed to secure a re-do. This time, they talked me into paying a considerable upcharge for 'solar nails.' What I didn't know at the time was that was just fancy-talk for 'gel nails.' During the 'reshoot' manicure, it hit me... You mean to tell me that this stuff cures in 30 seconds without grinding away my natural nail, and I can IMMEDIATELY wash dishes and such?! SOLD! I was hooked!
Now if you don't know me at all.... when I see something I love, my brain's default is "I could totally make that myself..." Caveat: I'm also frugal - borderline cheapskate. It gets me into trouble and tends to cost me more than just buying the thing... often.
Gel nail polish was no exception. Keep in mind, this was a time when DIY nails was not popular yet. So I scoured the interwebs, found and ordered cheapo stuff - polish and lamp - from China. #epicfail. I then spent a small fortune on mini gel polishes from my local beauty supply. Saved up and bought a fancy lamp. Over the next year or so, I quickly amassed over 100 gel polishes - most of which I never even used [can you relate?...LOL].

ACT ONE | DIP...A NEW OBSESSION
Then came a new phenomenon. Enter dip powder to the chat. I suddenly had a new obsession. If you've made it this far into the story, you can probably guess that I wanted to make my own, but much to my surprise, I resisted the urge and told myself, "STOP... you don't HAVE to make everything yourself... just BUY the dang powder!" And so I did... a LOT of dip powder.
The years go by. The collection grows. And along comes a pandemic.

ACT TWO | THE VILLAIN: MY DAY JOB
For the first time in my then 12 year career at my job, I was allowed to work from home. You have to understand... I work in a windowless, gray office. No sky. No sun. No nothing... For 12 years. And now I had a window - in SPRING. I could eat lunch on my patio hanging out with my pupper. I could take a lunch nap in my recliner with my kitty bitty. I could sleep later. No sitting in traffic. Life was GOOD. But after getting completely acclimated to my new life, upper management snatched it away - aggressively might I add. Now being forced back into my windowless, gray prison cell, I fell into a deep depression. I hadn't realized JUST how much happier and less stressed and anxious I'd been working from home. That was the beginning of the end for me. I began to see that I'd been like unto the frog being slowly boiled to death without even realizing it. And over the next few years, I became hyper aware of just how hot, murky, and toxic the water was. I began itching to break free.
ACT THREE | THE HERO: CREATIVE CONFIDENCE
It should be obvious by now that not only do I love to create, I also love movies and TV, and as it happens, love to be matchy matchy. In March 2023, while heading to the theater with Sunday matinee tickets, excited the see the long awaited sequel, John Wick 4, it struck me that I'd failed to match my manicure for the movie premiere. I was sad over the fact and began daydreaming about what colors I'd have chosen. Mentally filing through my inventory of dip colors while visualizing the beautiful, vibrant colors that the John Wick series is known for and not really satisfied with what I was coming up with. And that little DIY voice in my head piped up, "you know...I bet you could make your own colors to match perfectly....just sayin'.... aaaaaanddd there's GOT to be others out there that might love John Wick like you and want those same colors....maybe even other movies...." And so the idea of Matinee Manis was born.
After a year of research, hard work, a lot of tears, self doubt, and money.... my dream is finally becoming a reality! And I'm so excited to share it with you!
